National Road Safety Week 2022:

In today's time, along with road transport becoming more easily available, the number of means of traveling has also increased, due to which today we get to see congestion in the means of travel on the road, due to which accidents on the road are the most. It has emerged as one of the pressing social issues that the entire world is grappling with. 

According to official data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India, India ranks first in the number of deaths due to road accidents among 199 countries. These data are enough to prove that road safety has become a major public health concern.

Considering the seriousness of the issue of road safety and to make people aware of the ways to be more aware of their safety on the road, the Government of India, with the help of various State Governments, from 11th January to 17th January will launch the 'National Road Safety week'.

The theme of this year's National Road Safety Week is 'Road Safety - Jeevan Raksha'. The campaign will focus on various measures that people should adopt to follow the safety rules set by the government for vehicle safety on the road. Also, to keep yourself and your loved ones safe, these rules should be told.

The first national road safety week was observed in 1989. This year (2022) National Road Safety Week will be celebrated for the 30th time since its inception and will mark the importance of keeping safety a priority while traveling by any mode of transport, be it two or four wheelers.

National Road Safety Week 2022: Significance

Every year, lakhs of people lose their lives in road accidents in India. According to reports, despite the COVID-19 induced restrictions and the national lockdown, the road accidents claimed the casualties of around 80,000 people. Therefore, National Road Safety Week is of utmost importance to make people aware of the ways to avoid such road accidents and to make them aware of the unfortunate repercussions in case of flouting of safety measures on the road.

How Is The National Road Safety Week Celebrated?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways organizes a variety of events, campaigns and competitions to mark the week. Such as: Slogan Writing Contest, Poster Making Competition, Road Safety Quiz etc. All these programs are organized by the government to develop a positive attitude towards the people to walk and drive safely on the roads.
