Indigo is the story written by Louis Fischer who was a famous American journalist in this chapter he describe Gandhiji is struggle for poor peasants of Champaran. In those days most of the agriculture land in Champaran was honoured by Britishers and the Indigo tenants were compelled to plant 10% of the IndiGo.
The British didn't need the Indigo crop any more went Germany had developed synthetic Indigo one of the sharecroppers Named Rajkumar Shukla met Gandhi ji in this regard and compelled him to visit Champaran than two of them boarded a train for Bihar from their Shukla lead him to the house of a lawyer named Rajendra Prasad. Mahatma Gandhi is humble and simple attire made the servants mistake him as another poor peasant. He surveyed before taking any big step in order to get those farmers justice it was the time when British government punish those who in any condition give shelter to national leaders.
Gandhi's arrival and the nature of his mission speared like wildfire -many lawyers and peasants (farmers) groups come in large numbers to support him. Gandhi rebuked the lawyer for collecting big he from the sharecroppers Gandhiji manage to get justice after year long battle for the peasants. We also made agreements for education, health and hygiene for the families of the poor farmers he give them the lesson of self-respect.
